Students at North Babylon High School and Marion G. Vedder Elementary School have been dismissed following a four-hour lockdown at both schools Thursday.
The schools were placed on lockdown after Carlos Borbon, 26, barricaded himself in a home near the schools around 11 a.m. Police say they were unsure whether Borbon was armed.
Police were attempting to execute a warrant for Borbon at his Deer Park Avenue home when he barricaded himself. They say the warrant was for aggravated assault in an incident involving the mother of his children.
Borbon was taken into custody when he attempted to throw a fire extinguisher at a police sergeant who was trying to place a camera inside the house for surveillance. Borbon is being treated for minor head injuries, and the sergeant had minor leg injuries.
The high school was dismissed first, followed by the elementary school.
