A mural that hung for decades in the now-shuttered Sears store in Hickville is getting a new home.
The large mural of Long Island and its history has been in the store since 1966. When word got out that the store was going to close back in April, residents started calling the town asking for it to be preserved.
“This is a history lesson unto itself,” says Larry Rose, of the development and investment company MichelisRose Group. “When you look at the names on the wall, whether it's Walt Whitman or Teddy Roosevelt, it's a big part of history."
It’s expected to take two days to take down the mural. It will eventually hang in the nearby Hicksville Athletic Center.
