Multiple Nassau police units and fire departments responded to the scene. Police say the driver of the van was taken to the hospital.
Nassau police have not identified the driver of the van or released any information as to why there was a chase. News 12 is told the crash was the result of a pursuit that began in Babylon and ended in Baldwin.
Neighbors say they heard the incident as it unfolded, with some neighbors having their parked cars get caught up in the wreckage.
David Kimmel says he was walking down Grand Avenue when the incident happened.
"I was actually walking home from 7-Eleven and bought a pint of ice cream, I was right about the beginning of the condo entrance, heard helicopters in the air, I didn't think much," says Kimmel. "I just saw a van coming down Atlantic, he must've been doing 60-70 mph, hit his brakes and try to make a left turn here and he just started flipping and hopped over a car here ... as it got to me, I dove out of the way onto the grass."
