Nine people riding in an SUV -- seven of them between 12 and 16 years old -- were injured in a car crash in Lynbrook Monday afternoon.
Police say they were riding in a Ford Explorer that collided with a pickup truck on Peninsula Boulevard near Lyon Place.
Investigators say the pickup truck broadsided the SUV around 1 p.m. as it headed south on Peninsula Boulevard. Police say the pickup driver tried to turn left just before the collision.
Police say they had to use the Jaws of Life to rescue some of the passengers.
Police say at least two of the children had head trauma. One had to be airlifted to the hospital. The extent of the other injuries was not immediately available.
The child who suffered head trauma may have been sitting on a passenger's lap and not wearing a seatbelt, according to investigators.
Residents say it marks the second accident at the intersection in the past few weeks.
The accident is still under investigation. No charges have been filed at this time.
Police say the driver of the pickup truck was treated at the scene and released.
