Officials say a person was hit by a train east of Ronkonkoma early this morning.

The incident happened just before 3 a.m. on the LIRR tracks just west of the Waverly Avenue crossing in Holtsville.

The MTA says the person was hit by a freight train.

The incident affected two LIRR trains on the Ronkonkoma branch – both had to be canceled and buses were requested for passengers.

There is no word on the identity, or the condition of the person hit.
