MTA: LIRR train strikes vehicle in Hewlett; temporarily suspending service

A Long Island Rail Road train struck an unauthorized vehicle Monday near the Hewlett station, according to the MTA.
It happened shortly before 1:15 p.m. when an eastbound Far Rockaway train struck the vehicle at the West Broadway grade crossing.
The LIRR says service was suspended in both directions on the Far Rockaway Branch east of Valley Stream for around an hour.
