Traffic is once again flowing as the MTA completes construction of an LIRR bridge and reopens Covert Avenue in New Hyde Park.

The roadway was one of several street-level grade crossings being eliminated as part of the MTA's project to add a third track to a 10-mile stretch of main line between Floral Park and Hicksville.

Drivers say having the bridge with an underpass makes it easier to get around on Covert Avenue. One driver says sometimes you would have to wait for three lights to get across the railroad track.

Nassau County Executive Laura Curran was among those on hand at today's unveiling.

"This will allow for a much easier commute," says Curran.

According to the MTA, about 250 trains pass through the area each day - so with cars going under the tracks now it's safer.

Janno Lieber, with the MTA, says crews worked to minimize the inconvenience for people who live in the area during the six-month project.
