The mother of a dead infant is suing the hospital that mistakenly sent the body to an Oceanside laundry service.
Verna Uptigrow?s premature baby girl lived for about a half hour before she was pronounced dead at South Nassau Communities Hospital on February 20. The body was supposed to be taken to the morgue, but somehow ended up at an Oceanside laundry facility on Long Beach Road. Police say a worker found the 10-ounce body while sorting through dirty linens.
Uptigrow is seeking unspecified damages and says the lawsuit is not about money, but about finding answers.
