More than two dozen new charges were added to an already lengthy child sex abuse indictment against a Ronkonkoma karate teacher Monday after more alleged victims came forward and video of the alleged abuse surfaced.
James Bonfiglio was charged with 43 charges of sex abuse when he was arrested in February. The 27 new charges include 19 felony counts of oral or anal intercourse with a minor and five felony counts of sexual intercourse with a person under 15.
Suffolk officials say two more victims have come forward and that the charges date back six years. Officials also say they are in possession of videotapes of Bonfiglio sexually abusing three boys and found hidden cameras in the bathroom of his Ronkonkoma apartment and karate school.
Bonfiglio was freed on $500,000 bail last month, but with the new charges the judge is asking for $500,000 cash or $1 million bond. Bonfiglio will remain in jail until the money is posted.
The next hearing is scheduled for May 1.
