Many Montauk residents protested a controversial beach project Friday morning.
The project is supposed to protect the beach from erosion, but opponents worry that it will change the beach forever and will even hurt tourism.
The protesters locked arms on the sand, trying to stop the Army Corps of Engineers from laying 14,000 sandbags across Montauk's downtown beaches.
A cellphone video shows protesters being taken away in handcuffs. On the video, one protester is heard saying, "We're going to stop them no matter what it takes."
