Work is set to begin next month to shore up the land around the Montauk Point Lighthouse.
Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer has announced more than $28 million in federal funding for the project.
Crews will work to strengthen the rock wall surrounding the structure, protecting it from further erosion.
The lighthouse was first constructed in 1796.
It has become dangerous to visitors, and could be lost to the Atlantic Ocean.
The project is expected to last two years.
