A Hauppauge couple delivered their new daughter on the Long Island Expressway at the peak of rush hour in Dix Hills Tuesday.
Charlotte Livote was born around 5:30 p.m. Her parents, Edward and Janine, were trying to get to Winthrop University Hospital to meet their doctor.
Around Exit 51, they pulled onto the LIE's left shoulder against the median, and Edward delivered the baby with the help of an emergency services dispatcher and a police officer.
Charlotte weighed in at 6 pounds, 15 ounces. News 12 is told she is perfectly healthy.
The Livote family is expected to return home Thursday.
