Residents on Bruce Terrace in Mineola are fuming after another round of heavy downpours left their homes with flood damage.
Neighbors say every time it rains heavily, the flood waters rush down from a hill on Fairfield Avenue. They say the outdated sewer system just can't handle it. Residents have written letters and attended village meetings to complain about the problem over the past 40 years, but say the village has done nothing to help.Village Water and Sewer officials say they do maintain the basins and the system works as far as draining off the water rapidly. Some residents on the street say they'd like to see bigger storm drainage pipes installed. However, village officials say they don't know if larger pipes will fix the problem.
