A Bethpage middle school teacher was arrested on child pornography charges Monday when federal agents uncovered 80 sexually explicit images of boys and girls on his laptop.
Feds say some of the images found on William Sawicz?s computer in Howard Beach, Queens, showed children being assaulted by adults.
Sawicz taught Spanish to sixth, seventh and eigth-graders at JFK Middle School. Federal agents say some of the children in the pornography Sawicz had on his laptop weren?t much older than his students.
Some parents say they weren?t notified by the school of Sawicz?s charges, which concerns them.
Feds say they were monitoring Sawicz?s computer for about a month as he downloaded pictures from a well-known child pornography site. Court documents say Sawicz admitted to downloading the pictures for more than one year, but that he didn?t have any sexual relations with children.
Sawicz was released on a $150,000 bond after appearing in U.S. District Court. He was ordered to stay away from schools and children, and is now looking at up to 10 years in prison.
