A Syosset man is accused threatening a clerk with a box cutter after he didn't win the lottery.

Police say the incident happened yesterday at Food Express on Jericho Turnpike in Syosset.

Store clerk Kumar Patel says customer Michael Sullo comes to his store every day to buy beer and play the same lotto numbers, 5-0-2. But Patel's brother was ringing up Sullo and he mistakenly punched in the numbers as 5-2-0.

When 5-0-2 was selected as the winner on Friday, Patel says the Syosset man returned in the evening to demand his winnings, a total of $290.

Patel says his brother told Sullo that he couldn't hand over the money because customers are supposed to check their numbers before leaving the counter. He says that Sullo was given $40 for the mix-up, but he became upset and then followed him when he was going home.

That's when Patel says the suspect approached his driver's side window with a box cutter and threatened to slash his tires and harm his family if he didn't receive the rest of the winnings, totaling $250.

Fearing for his life, Patel says they returned to the store, where he handed over the $250. He says Sullo also grabbed his iPhone off the counter, then smashed it in the parking lot and stepped on it.

Nassau police say Sullo has been arraigned on robbery and weapons charges. He's being held on $20,000 cash bail.
