A Merrick woman was found guilty of first-degree manslaughter Monday in the strangling death of her husband.
Kelly Forbes, 29, was arrested in November and accused of strangling her 50-year-old husband, Michael, with an electrical cord. Police say she committed the murder as her young daughter slept in a nearby bedroom.
Forbes was arrested in November and charged with murder. The charges were reduced to manslaughter after a grand jury heard the evidence for the case and returned an indictment for manslaughter.
Forbes tried to convince the jury that she was trying to protect herself from her husband, who had a criminal record of rape and robbery.
