A Merrick man was sentenced Monday to more than two decades behind bars for the strangling death of his wife.

John Gerges will spend 21 years in prison for killing his homebound wife Marvat Gerges, 58, in Feb. 2020.

As News 12 has reported, officials say Gerges got into an argument with his wife. That's when they say he strangled his wife of 37 years.

Marvat Gerges' body was later discovered by the couple's son.
