A Merrick family filed suit against Menu Foods of Canada after its dog allegedly died from eating poisonous pet food earlier this month.
"Basically, the dog was murdered," Sandra Bobb said.
At a news conference in Albany Friday, New York's agriculture secretary said aminopterin, a rat poison, was found in the cat food. Menu Foods recalled more than 60 million cans of pet food blamed for the deaths of at least 16 cats and dogs nationwide.
For Princess, the Bobb family's late bull mastiff, the recall came too late.
Bobb said Princess ate the Menu Foods product for breakfast on a Friday morning. She suffered through excessive drinking, urination and vomiting before dying Saturday, March 10, of kidney failure. Princess was 2 years old.
Bobb did not disclose how much the lawsuit asks for in damages. Related Information:Menu Foods
