As Brooklyn residents process the results of Tuesday’s presidential election, many are struggling with heightened emotions and stress.
Dr. Rukiya King, a clinical psychologist at Maimonides Medical Center, suggests ways to protect mental health during this challenging time.
“Lean on your community, speak to them, get support, get validation,” Dr. King advised. “Feel like you're sharing this experience with other people so that you're not feeling alone or isolated.”
Dr. King also encourages setting boundaries in discussions where opinions may differ.
“It’s OK to preserve your mental well-being at this time...and not have to engage in those conversations," says King.
For parents, Dr. King recommends having honest and informed conversations about current events.
