A special dedication ceremony was held this morning to honor a Nassau County police officer who was accidentally killed in the line of duty.

A plaque was unveiled in memory of Special Operations Officer Geoffrey Breitkopf in Massapequa Park.

As News 12 has reported, the father of two was accidentally shot in 2011 by an MTA officer who mistook him for a suspect.

The memorial is at the corner of Clark Boulevard and Front Street, just blocks from where the incident happened. A local Boy Scout who never knew Breitkopf raised hundreds of dollars to buy a bench to beautify the memorial.

Breitkopf's wife and two young boys were there for the ceremony. They were given a special plaque as well. After Breitkopf's death, a fund was set up for his family.
