The Nassau Sheriff's Department hosted its annual memorial for correctional officers in East Meadow on Thursday.
It was in honor of the county's four correctional officers who died in the line of duty.
The families of those lost, and officers across Nassau, came together to pay their respects.
"We don't get the type of recognition or public notice that other law agencies get. When our families come to this, they are eternally grateful for the recognition that their loved ones get," said correctional lieutenant Brian Sullivan.
The salute comes during National Correction Officers Week.
The families of three Nassau officers who died from 9/11-related illness also attended the memorial.
