A memorial unveiled Sunday at the Dix Hills Jewish Center is dedicated to U.S. and Israeli soldiers.

The memorial was built by 16-year-old Joshua Brodsky, of Commack, as his Eagle Scout project.

It contains both American and Israeli flags. The American placed at the site was flown over the US Capitol building on Sept. 11 this year. The structure is meant to serve as a constant reminder of the contributions that American and Israeli veterans have made.

"I hope people feel a sense of pride and gratitude towards all those who have served. All the people who have served, we owe them so much and this is one of the few things I could do to give back to them," says Brodsky.

Rep. Tom Suozzi and state Assemblyman Steve Stern were among the attendees at Sunday's event, which came ahead of Veterans Day on Monday. The lawmakers congratulated Brodsky on his efforts.

There were also veterans in the crowd at Sunday's dedication event.
