A Medford man who lost his son in a motorcycle accident has found a unique way to deal with his grief. He's turned his home into a sanctuary for sick and abandoned cats.
Chris Arsenault runs the nonprofit Happy Cat Sanctuary, where there are more than 300 cats living with him.
Since 2007, Arsenault has been caring for sick, unwanted, blind, disabled and abused cats.
"I have had cats come skin and bones and now they are fat and healthy," Arsenault says.
He says the cats have kept him going, despite his broken heart.
Arsenault has built shelters in his yard for the cats and has retrofitted his entire home for the cats' comfort.
Although feeding and caring for the cats' medical needs is a 16-hour day, Arsenault says the hardest part of the job is getting sleep because all the cats want to be in his little room.
