Suffolk prosecutors claim a homeless man lit another homeless man's van on fire, severely burning the victim.
William Serrano told News 12 Long Island, "I didn't light him on fire?I lit his property on fire like he did to mine." Prosecutors believe Serrano set fire to the van 57-year-old Steven Caulo was living in while the father of two was inside. According to prosecutors, there was a dispute over which of the men owned a pop-up camper. Caulo removed the camper from property he owned in Shirley. Prosecutors say when Serrano was released from prison and found the camper gone, he attacked Caulo.
Serrano has twice been to jail for selling drugs and is being held on $1 million bail. The victim's son says Caulo has started receiving skin grafts. A fund has been established to help with Caulo's medical bills.
