Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office investigators called human traffickers operating on Long Island "master manipulators."
Investigators testified in front of the Suffolk Legislature’s Public Safety Committee this morning.
The investigators detailed the way in which traffickers identify, recruit and control victims on Long Island and say all parents should be on high alert.
"Victims are really anyone who has a vulnerability. Any age, race, gender, and we see mostly neighbors and children's classmates sadly," said Investigator Erin Meunkle.
Investigators also told lawmakers that a mandated curriculum in schools could help to curb the trafficking problem in Suffolk and protect young people.
