A massive project, including construction of a new sports arena, is officially on the table for Ronkonkoma.

It was one of four ideas submitted to develop a 40-acre site between MacArthur Airport and the Ronkonkoma LIRR train station.

The proposed 17,500-seat venue would be to lure a professional sports team to Suffolk County.        

The company behind the Ronkonkoma arena plan said the $1 billion project would be privately funded.

However, there are many steps that need to be taken. The first is approval by the Suffolk legislature and then an environmental review.
