Fire rips through recycling facility in Islandia

The fire caused Vets Highway to be closed in both directions at Blydenburgh Road.

A massive fire at a recycling facility in Islandia is now under control.
The fire broke out around 2 a.m. at Long Island Waste Services where piles of household garbage are disposed of.
At least nine fire departments were called in to fight the flame.
The fire caused Veterans Memorial Highway to be closed in both directions at Blydenburgh Road. It has since reopened.
No injuries were reported.
