A zombie home was demolished in Massapequa Thursday.
The house on Forest Avenue stood vacant and dilapidated after Superstorm Sandy destroyed it and created an eyesore for residents.
Code enforcement officers visited the property on 28 occasions due to the conditions and lack of maintenance.
A judge granted the Town of Oyster Bay permission to tear down the house for health and safety reasons.
"When you knock down a zombie home, it makes the neighborhood safer, kids can't get inside and get into trouble, it gets rid of problems associated with an abandoned house, it makes the neighborhood look better, it makes people feel better about the neighborhood they live in," said Town of Oyster Bay Supervisor Joseph Saladino.
The demolition marked the 23rd building that the Town of Oyster Bay took down since the formation of the Quality of Life Task Force in 2017.
