Students in Massapequa are happy to be getting back to what they love.

For Chloe Legate, who is going into ninth grade, that is music theater. She has been doing so since fourth grade - but things took a turn around two years ago.

"I was in the middle of working on a show when it got canceled so that was a whirlwind," Legate says.

Now Legate and her peers are back to singing and dancing.

Jessica Wyman, coordinator of Summer Fine Arts, says this is how it is supposed to be.

"And we see kids all the time…being timid and unsure of themselves and then they get here and find a little home and they really blossom here," Wyman says.

Bill Brennan, the Massapequa schools superintendent, says they are creating an environment where children are experiencing joy and are in their element.

"Parents were happy, kids were happy, everyone was just happy and it was so refreshing to be back to that," Wyman says.

The program has grown immensely from when Wyman took over in 2010 when just 100 children were taking part. Now, over 500 children are part of the program and new classes like fashion design and claymation have been added.
