A Massapequa man was arraigned in his hospital bed at Nassau University Medical Center Wednesday following Tuesday's fatal crash on Sunrise Highway.
Police say Michael Bantel was drunk when his Nissan crossed into oncoming traffic and slammed head-on into a pickup truck at around 4:45 a.m. Tuesday.
Anthony Sylvia, the 28-year-old passenger in Bantel's car, was killed in the crash. The unidentified female driver of the pickup truck was also injured.
According to a felony complaint, Bantel appeared glassy eyed, smelled of alcohol and had a beer can in a paper bag inside the vehicle.
Bantel is facing manslaughter, DWI and other charges. His license was suspended.
Bantel is due in court on May 8.
