Five new. It has been 10 days since the Massapequa International softball team won that championship and the celebrations continue. They've got a championship parade coming up on Friday and we have the champs here in the studio tonight. The coaches and the players give yourself, give yourself a nice round of applause. Rich Eaton is the head coach, Ava Rios there in the middle and Sienna on the end and coach, you put this team together in May, a lot of girls, right? Y'all didn't know each other. You weren't best friends. When did you know, we have something special? Well, actually they played against each other during the regular season. Rivals turned into champions. But, uh, coach and myself, we knew we had great talent, but not until we played States when we gave up one run throughout the whole tournament, did we know that we really had something special and something special turned into a championship even for you. You've been home for a while now. What's it been like coming back home as a champ? It's been really chaotic just running from event to event to like get interviewed and for like the whole town, like supporting us and stuff before the game. Your assistant coach Dom here said your Massapequa tough. We're Long Island tough. We're New York tough. And you really embraced it, didn't you? And I've got the video to prove it. A who's the best answer? Josh. Nice job. Very nice. But what does it mean about having fun? What did fun do for this championship? Oh my God. All of us just bonded together and we were having fun and that's really what made us win. We all knew we could do it. So doing it together is amazing. I've got something else too because coach Dom got kind of social media famous, didn't he? His pregame speech that he gave you? It's about two minutes long and it's really good. And there's one part that I thought really made the difference for you and I want to play that years from now, years from now. Whenever we decide we're getting this team back together to talk about the good old days. The conversation is not going to be, hey, you remember when we played in the World Series? You remember when we won the and is right there in the middle of it and she's like, let's go. But what did it mean that coach said, hey, I'm not just happy to be here. He said, we're gonna win before the game. What did that mean? All right, it was great. I, I love his speeches. They fired me up they fire everyone up. We're ready to play after that. David. Did you have a moment where you went? Ok. Yeah, let's go win this thing. Yeah. And States, right? States and then you go on to become the champion. How about that, that speech, what did it do for the team? It always give everyone, like, so much confidence, just like, get up at bat and know that everyone's like there for each other and knowing like, if someone makes a mistake, someone will just pick them right back up. Now. You know, I know the coach has told me, look, you gave up part of your summer vacations, right? You probably have other friends that you didn't see because you went on this great run. You had some fun though too and I've got some photos to prove it right. You went out to sports bars. We did hibachi. I think there was ice cream. So it's not all about Xs and Os. I think Coach Dom told me it was more like a little vacation. Right? Going down to North Carolina. There's the, uh, raise your hand. Who had the most hibachi? Be honest with me, raise your hand. You got one over there, right? Anybody else or is, is she the champ of hai? Yeah. Who ate the most? Yeah. Who, who ate the most ice cream? Yeah, over there. All right. That's fine. And now you're also probably wondering why is there a girl with a giant avocado on. So uh coach to pass this over there. All right. Uh Give me your name, Mia. Uh Can you explain that because it's super awkward that you're the only one here with an avocado on your head last year in regionals. Um I wanted to get on TV, so I bought the avocado hat and I did get on TV. So I thought it would be funny to bring it back this year and the rest is history. Go avocados. Right. Go Massapequa International. Go champs. How good does that sound? Awesome. Awesome. Congratulations. Hey, and don't forget the celebrations aren't over. They're going to the Ducks game tonight. So if you're going in tonight you'll see them there, Mets game on Saturday. Correct. Most importantly, the parade coming up for these girls as well on Friday in Massapequa. Brady Park.
