The Massapequa Coast Little League team was eliminated Friday from Little League World Series contention.
The team, which made it to the Williamsport tournament a year ago, fell to the Smithfield Little League team from Rhode Island.
Residents packed Johns J. Burns Park to root on their team.
Although they did not get the result they were hoping for, those in the community say they’re still proud of the boys.
“These boys played their hearts out,” one fan says. “They put in the best effort.”
The Massapequa Coast Little League team swept their way through the New York state championship and scored 21 combined run in three regional games.
