A 10-year-old Massapequa boy who accidentally shot himself with his father's gun died Tuesday.
Police say Tyler Dunne somehow got his hands on his father's .38-caliber handgun Sunday night. According to investigators, the gun discharged and the boy was hit in the head. Tyler passed away at Nassau University Medical Center. Police say the boy's father, Joseph Dunne, is a New York City police officer and the gun was his off-duty weapon.
The boy's family says it plans to donate his organs so that some good will come of the tragedy.
