Great Neck students welcomed Martin Luther King III, the son of the late civil rights activist Martin Luther King Jr., to their school Thursday morning.

King shared his father's legacy and continued the work of promoting diversity.

King says he is excited for the future and wants to inspire the younger generation.

“I always want to understand where the kids are at because they are the future," he said. "This is a snapshot right now, and it seems turbulent, but it always smooths out.”

Students were able to ask questions about his father's role in the Civil Rights Movement.

"I think events like these are really important, and they're the reason why good exists in the world today," said Chris Fukuda, a Great Neck South High School senior.

King spent the morning and afternoon at the Great Neck Union Free School District speaking with students from fifth grade to seniors.
