A Marine from East Northport returning from a tour of duty in Iraq got a hero's welcome at JFK Airport Sunday morning.
Cpl. Andrew Hooghuis just completed a tour helping to train Iraqi forces in their fight against Islamic State militants.
Hooghuis is also a volunteer member of the Commack Fire Department. His fellow firefighters were joined by his family and friends to salute him as he arrived at the airport this morning.
Now that he's done, Hooghuis says he plans to enjoy some down time with family, but not for long. He plans to go back to school and eventually pursue a career with the NYPD or FDNY. In the meantime, he says he will be putting on his gear and helping the Commack Fire Department.
