One Long Island community is mourning the loss of a local first responder.
Erasmo Troia, an NYPD officer and member of the Manhasset-Lakeville Fire Department, has died at the age of 25.
The fire department, where Troia was a CO2 firefighter and an EMT, announced his untimely passing on social media.
“A hero to his community, rest in peace,” the Facebook post read.
Troia performed numerous acts of bravery in his career, including carrying injured fellow officers to safety, running 10 blocks to help a stabbing victim, and stopping while off-duty to apply a tourniquet that helped save a motorcyclist’s life, according to nonprofit Beyond the Badge.
“Erasmo’s dedication to service extended far beyond the uniform. He was someone who truly loved helping others and never hesitated to step in when someone needed him,” the organization said.
North Hempstead Town Supervisor Jen DeSena remembered the volunteer as a young leader, beloved son, brother, and friend, whose life was dedicated to serving others.
“May we honor Erasmo by continuing to look out for one another and serve our community in his name,” DeSena added.
Wake services for Troia will be held on Thursday at Fairchild Sons Funeral Chapel in Manhasset, with a funeral service set for Friday morning at St. Mary’s Church.
