After day two of a countywide recount, the race for Nassau County executive remains extremely close.
Republican challenger Ed Mangano took a slim lead over County Executive Tom Suozzi for the first time in the recount Tuesday, but officials wouldn?t release the final numbers.
Election officials are double- and triple-checking the tallies on more than 1,400 voting machines as Republican and Democratic volunteers as well as lawyers for each candidate watch.
As of Tuesday, nearly one-third of the voting machines were recounted. The absentee ballots will be counted next week.
The battle could end up in court though, according to officials involved.
