The Riverhead Police Department is being sued by a man who says he found a noose hanging in the break room at his job.
George Richards says he filed a harassment complaint with the police department after he found the noose back in 2015 when he went into the lunchroom at United Terminal of Riverhead.
The suit also says he was subjected to racist taunts after being promoted two years before allegedly finding the noose. Richard's attorney says his client was subjected to a hostile work environment and was relegated to jobs below his work grade.
Richards' attorney says the department failed to properly investigate and prosecute those who were involved.
Richards is seeking at least $1 million in damages.
