A man was stabbed to death on a Babylon street Saturday not far from where a Little League team was playing a game.
It happened on Locust Avenue, near North Carll Avenue just after 12 p.m.
Police say the stabbing began as a dispute between 28-year-old Babylon resident Michael Grusel and James Moran, a 20-year-old Bay Shore man.
It is unclear what sparked the dispute that lead to the stabbing, but Grusel allegedly stabbed Mohan in the middle of the street. A Little League coach saw the scene unfold and told an off-duty cop whose child was about to play ball.
The off-duty officer was able to subdue Grusel and hold him until police backup arrived and took him into custody. Moran was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
Officials say the stabbing was unrelated to the nearby baseball game. Investigators are now looking into what sparked the dispute, and why the two men were in the area.
Police have not said if there was a previous relationship between the two men, but say they are looking into it.
Neighbors in the area say Grusel has been repeatedly bullied.
Grusel is expected to be arraigned in First District Court in Central Islip today.
