A man has been shot in Wheatley Heights, according to Suffolk Police.
Police say that the 40-year-old was sitting in the driver's seat of a parked 2014 Toyota Prius in front of 17 Locust Ave. around 10:20 a.m. Another vehicle pulled alongside him and fired multiple shots, striking him in the arm before they fled.
The man was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital in West Islip for serious but non-life-threatening injuries, according to police.
“Thank God he’s alright,” said one neighbor. “I just hope they catch the guy if they haven’t already caught him… Because that’s crazy.”
Neighbors told News 12 they heard at least three gunshots. When they came outside, they saw the victim get out of the car and walk towards the house to sit on the front steps. Police came a few minutes later.
The victim’s car was parked on the street, and there was shattered glass on the ground from the broken front window and two bullet holes in the door.
Neighbors say they are shocked, and those who knew the victim say he and his family were very nice and great neighbors.
They also say this area has always felt very safe, but they’re going to take extra precautions now.
Police are asking anyone with information to call them at 631-854-8152 or Suffolk County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.
