A crash sent one person to the hospital with serious injuries and shut down the Long Island Expressway in Syosset for hours today.
Police say an 83-year-old man stopped his vehicle in the HOV lane of the eastbound LIE near exit 43 after getting a flat tire. A car driven by a 53-year-old man collided with the stopped car, and a car driven by a 36-year-old hit the second car.
The 82-year-old victim was taken to a hospital, where he is listed in serious condition. The 52-year-old man was treated at a hospital and released. The driver of the third vehicle did not suffer any injuries.
Police said there did not appear to be any criminality involved in the incident.
