Man rescued after being hit by LIRR train in Brentwood

A man was rescued Wednesday night after being hit by a Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) train in Brentwood. Police say the man was attempting to cross the tracks on Fourth Street to get to Suffolk Avenue.

A man was rescued Wednesday night after being hit by a Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) train in Brentwood.
Police say the man was attempting to cross the tracks on Fourth Street to get to Suffolk Avenue. The man was hit by the slow-moving train and pinned underneath. Rescue crews from Brentwood and Islip were able to free him.
The man was taken to Stony Brook University Hospital. He suffered severe leg injuries and may need an amputation.
