Police say a search is underway for the hit-and-run driver who fatally struck a man in East Patchogue Sunday morning.
Detectives say the 64-year-old victim was walking with a cane near East Main Street just before 7 a.m. when he was struck. The victim has been identified as Warren Karstendick, of East Patchogue. Police say Karstendick might have been vision impaired.
Police say the driver did not stop at the scene and continued traveling east.
Investigators say they are looking for a 2002 to 2005 blue Ford Explorer SUV with front-end damage to its hood and grille area.
Police are looking to speak with witnesses and say they are reviewing surveillance footage from nearby businesses. There is a red-light camera positioned nearby and police say they will also be checking out its footage.
