A man is dead after an accident in Mount Sinai Wednesday that involved a Suffolk County police car. According to police, Officer Robert Falisi was responding to a call involving speeding motorcycles in Miller Place when he observed some of the motorcycles traveling westbound on Route 25A in Mount Sinai. Officer Falisi activated his lights and sirens in an attempt to take enforcement action.
Police say 27-year-old Gabriel Bergianti, of Port Jefferson Station, was driving his Ford Mustang southbound on Hallock Avenue. As the police car and Mustang entered the intersection of Route 347 and Hallock Avenue, they crashed. Bergianti was transported to John T. Mather Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead. Officer Falisi suffered non-life threatening injuries.
