Police say a man fleeing from attackers was killed when he ran into oncoming traffic on a Hempstead street Friday morning.
Police say witnesses saw Wualther Antonio Kubas Basilar, of Uniondale, being assaulted by two men on Centre Street around 4:30 a.m. He was able to break away and ran westbound into traffic, according to Detective Sgt. Greg Quinn.
Basilar was hit by a 2005 Toyota. Police say the driver never saw the 27-year-old jut out into the street because an MTA bus was blocking his view.
Police are looking for the alleged attackers. They are urging anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS.
