A man was fatally shot just steps away from a Uniondale church while Sunday service was going on, and now police are trying to track down the gunman.
Police say the shooting began with a verbal dispute between two men outside of Tabernacle of Joy Baptist Church on Hill Street. One of the men pulled out a handgun and shot the 34-year-old victim, then fled the scene.
The victim was taken to Nassau University Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. His identity is being withheld pending family notification.
The church's congregants are holding an emergency meeting tomorrow night to address violence in the community. Members of the church are also going door-to-door to urge anyone who may have information on the crime to come forward.
Investigators are urging anyone who may have information to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS.
