A man is accused of trying to steal a car with two young kids inside in Suffolk County on Tuesday afternoon.

The children’s father went into Bougatfa Zero smoke shop on Suffolk Avenue in Brentwood, leaving his 6-year-old and 5-year-old in the running vehicle, police say.

That’s when Mustafa Attia, 23, of Ronkonkoma, got into the 2025 Volkswagen and tried to drive away.

Suffolk police tell News 12 the father saw this happening and ran out to the car with an employee from the smoke shop to stop the man.

Multiple people called 911 as they were unable to get Attia out of the driver’s seat, until third precinct officers arrived and removed him.

He was taken to South Shore University Hospital in Bay Shore for evaluation.

The two children were not harmed in the incident.

Attia will face charges of attempted grand larceny, endangering the welfare of a child, and possession of a controlled substance when he is arraigned at a later date.
