A Hicksville man is accused of stealing or damaging 1,100 feet of copper cable that belonged to the Long Island Rail Road.
Investigators say Bernard Jenkins took the cable from a substation and several other railroad properties at least eight times over the past two weeks.
One theft on Thursday caused a track fire in Mineola that delayed trains for hours during the morning rush, officials say.
Jenkins has been arrested a total of 11 times for stealing copper from the LIRR.
