Man accused of killing Sayreville councilwoman to remain in Virginia

The man accused of killing a Republican Sayreville council member will remain in Virginia for the time being.

Rashid Bynum had his extradition hearing on Thursday. Virginia officials have not yet signed a warrant that would bring Bynum to New Jersey.

Bynum, 28, was arrested last month in his home state of Virginia.

Officials say that he shot Council Member Eunice Dwumfour multiple times as she sat inside her SUV in front of her Sayreville apartment building on Feb. 1.

A motive for the killing remains unclear.
