A Blue Point man is accused of driving drunk, crashing into a residential garage and taking off -- and he has a few words of advice to offer.
"Don't drink and drive," the suspect said when asked by News 12 what he'd say to the owners of the garage he hit. He made the comment as he was being led by police to court Sunday morning.
Police say the suspect, 20-year-old Kevin Sheehan Jr., was drunk behind the wheel of a 2013 Ford Fusion shortly after midnight in Bayport. Officers say he lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a home's garage on Bayport Avenue.
Investigators say Sheehan then drove off from the scene, but was quickly apprehended. The owner of the house would not go on camera, but he did tell News 12 that police were led to the suspect after the car's license plate fell off and was left behind in his garage.
Cameras were rolling as a grinning, handcuffed Sheehan was asked by a News 12 reporter how much he had to drink. "A lot," he responded, despite being under the drinking age of 21.
Nobody was injured in the crash, but the garage door sustained serious damage.
Police say Sheehan is charged with driving while intoxicated, leaving the scene and criminal possession of marijuana.
